What about 50 years from now?

I took this picture last year somewhere in Europe. I love this picture since then. You can even see this was the first picture I post for my creative thinking blog also. I love how the blue sky and the white snow makes me feel calm and peaceful, the same feeling when I was up there watching the undescribably beautiful of our mother earth.

In my AIP project, I got the topic Nature/ Human. We did research mostly about global warming. Suddenly I remember about this picture I took and I'm wondering will the beauty of the blue sky and white snow will still be there later on may be 50 years from now?

Since young, I grew up with the passion of creating artworks. Through experience on joining competitions and practicing during my free time I learn many things that now I use to create art pieces. One of the most unforgettable moments of my Art career was the creation of my O level Artwork. Theme “Bunches of Vegetables”. In this Artwork of mine which consist of Design & Technology work and Acrylic painting, I tried to link my family in this Artwork. By cutting gears and linking them together to rotate in which represents a family (My family) working together as one to build a stronger bond (Ropes). I painted my family member portraits on each gear and covered them in bunches of vegetables to represent the link or bond of a family with gears. The artist that inspired me of this painting was “Giuseppe Arcimboldo”.

Carnival

First of all, I would like to describe the picture . This is my 2D project , obviously, you can see,  a beautiful lady in the paper. I trend to present a feeling of carnival so I choose to draw a lady which wear beautiful clothes in carnival. And I consider warm color such as red and orange can make people feel the enthusiasm of the people in carnival.

Secondly, seeing the whole picture, you can find the contrast of black and red. I use black background to highlight the red color , and in order to not giving people too strong feeling , a choose a kind of transparent paper to cover in the picture.
If you look carefully, you will find that I cut this transparent paper into triangles and make up into three angle in order to have a design feel.

In the end, I know this project is not so good, but I still like it because I pay my effort to it.

Life without music............

I can't imagine my life without music, I listen to my iPod almost every single day. Music helps me to forget about the tough day that i had, keeps me awake from the fatigue of a day outside. When i am exercising, listening to up-beat songs that matches the tempo of my exercise gives me the determination to push myself further. On the bus/Mrt, it's essential that i am listening to my iPod to shut down the conversation of strangers around me, giving me a world of my own. Music literally keeps me going.

Left unsaid

These are compilations of the make up that i did in 2011. Since 2010, i have found interest in using another medium as a canvas - and that is my face. I would often reach home after a long day and randomly pick up a brush and use the different make up products to create different looks which are more on the artistic side. Sometimes doing the same thing like others is just too boring. I wanted to experiment more, so i added on even more. Theres this quote that inspires me keep trying, and that is "You'll never know if you never try". I didn't know i would come this far after experimenting with all the different make up looks. My interest for make up grew tremendously and it led me to sign up for a Diploma in Makeup Artistry. I feel that other than just enhancing our appearances, try taking up the eyeliner and draw some lines. It can always depend just on your mood. Without any plans or any decisions, just do it. Just add on along the way, get ideas along the way.

Our faces are always expressions of oneself, and i believe that these makeup looks can interpret the feelings i had during that period of time. I may not be able to explain it but i know that every stroke we make and every colour we use can depict a story that is left unsaid.

Saint Paul Cathedral , England . An enormous religious sanctuary , exquisite architecture despite it's age . St Paul's famous story was that in the 1900s , the Germans attacked the cathedral and the buildings that surround it it . St Paul is the only buildings that survived . It was truly God's grace . The hints of gold radiates the same essence of when is was first built.
St Paul is history and history  is like wine . The older it is the more we are floored with awe .

The True Happiness that we have lost

"If i had more money, i would be happy. If i had a sport car, i would be happy." Any of these statements ring a bell with you? Nowadays, many of us equate happiness with something we don't have.So we are always looking to the unreal for happiness. In our modern society, money takes an important place to us.But can money brings us happiness? I think there is a lot of arguments between the answer. For me, money is the thing that can only satisfied our desires on materials. Although it can brings us pleasure and joy but not happiness.

Happiness comes from sharing life with those you love and care about. Meeting friends for a cup of coffee, family-outing ,and etc. Simple pleasures in your life have probably given you the most happiness. Life is made up of special moments with special people. You have learn to take those moments, breathe them in, enjoy them, relish them, treasure them.

Stairway Dilemma

"You cant fail if you never give up" ~ Stephen( The Last Kiss)

Back in high school, in his fourth year, the boy was tasked with a painting that he would use to submit for his final year art examination. Going with the theme “Stairway,” he bended his research in painting the lives of students.

Life is like a stairway to the sky, the further you climb; the more difficult it is to climb.

As students metaphorically, we strive our best keep on climbing these flight of stairs, trying to reach to the misty top. Not knowing what is in store for us in the future. Some of us get tired and restless, with the fear of not reaching the top; we give up halfway. Others watch them sit, they can’t stand to see their friends give up, they grasped on their hands tightly, supporting them to the top.

The Best Way Out is Always Through

But most of the people nowadays will choose to avoid or escape from that situation. This will make us trap into a very horrible situation. Just think about that, if we walk in a jungle and we suddenly meet a high slope, what will you do? Change another way? If me , i will try to climb over that slope. We don't know that if that is the lowest slope among the other hill in that jungle, if we keep change another way, it will cost a lot of time.

Braids is one of my semester project i did back then in my previous school. Its a handmade and machined sewed combination of drawstring tote bag. This is one of my work first few pieces that i'm proud of even though it didn't turn out as i expected it to be. I've decided to combine both tote bag and drawstring as i like how the function of draw string pouches always work, its easily accessed and it keep things secure too, in the pouch, thus i added the function into the tote. The handle of the tote is a braided woven wool string, its a 5 braided pattern, i chose it to be wool string as i personally prefer it if my handles are soft  when carried it on the shoulder especially when carrying heavy things. I also didn't sewed it fixed onto the bag as i wanted it to be interchangeable, so i could braid more patterns for the strap, or even change the color of the strap when i feel like it.

Why i chose and decided on doing this is because, i have always wanted to come out a product of my own, specifically more on sewing stuffs, like hand-stitch items , pouches , bags and clothes.  I grew up in an environment where all my aunts and even my mum stitches or knit. I started to have interest in it. To me, this craft is one of my passion, or usually when i'm down , i would start coming up with things i would like to sew or DIY ( do it yourself).

This photograph is me, using double exposure makes me and branches into one. I like this photo very much! It is give people a different feeling and view. Soft color and gentle tones make people suddenly see the light and begin to feel relieved. And the white background precipitate the theme, fuzzy leaves but able to see the shape of the people. I think we all belong to the nature, including plats and human. Human and nature should be equality. They have their own life, changes by the seasons, this is same as human. However human has been destroying the nature by cutting down trees to disturb their life. We should not do that, as the trees can cleaning the air, absorb carbon dioxide which exhaust by vehicles. They are our friends. I hope there will have more people alert the importance of trees in our life. Sometime, i am so curious about how is the feeling of the branches swing by the wind, under the blue sky.

Stomboli revisited

This is a picture of the collage created by me using Ingrid Bergman's famous still photograph from the film Stromboli. In the film she plays the role of Karin, a Lithuanian WW2 refugee who meets and marries a man from Stromboli. The film(Rosellini,1950) portrays the isolation and disillusionment she experiences once she is on that volcanic island. She feels herself to be a prisoner of circumstance and finds release only when the volcano erupts and she flees the island for good.

Circa 2013, the context changes but the perspective remains the same. Bergman appears almost consumed by newsprint, her expression one of extreme vulnerability and possible isolation. It is as if the all-pervasive character of post modern media is leaving her isolated, helpless and without respite. I have deliberately shown the collage as representative of press clippings on her face, a disembodied, engulfing media being reflected back at her- maybe from a laptop, a tablet or a google glass?

I argue through this work that the postmodern woman in 2013 is as vulnerable as the modern woman of 1950. In the later case, it is society, represented by her volcanic prison, that isolated her. In the former, it is her media saturated environment that leaves her puzzled, distressed and alone. Whether then or now, each person is trapped in her own Stromboli.

I took this photograph at the Singapore Biennale 2013 at the Singapore Art Museum.
This is an really interesting art piece, where the artist craved and shaped these miniature talisman-like sculptures to express his point of view of the worldview of nature, spirituality, and macro and micro cosmos. what intricate me is that? How tiny the object is made?   It's very interesting seeing how detailed and frail it looked like.  A picture not only tells a story , but signifies a meaning such as seeing this inspiration from a person's different perspective point of view.  It's not what you see from an tiny object, its what you view. Different people have their own views and flaws, that's what make this art piece special. " It's not by size but what's the inner that counts deeper."

Fantasy of a child

Since I was a child . I read a lot of comic books and I always imaging myself as the character in that story.

This piece of artwork represent a boy who invision himself as one of the main star in that comic book. Fighting evil to save the world. All of us at some point in our lives has this fantasy in our mind. Sometimes it's good to have those memories, reminding us of our youth without any concern to worry about. Cause it's the source of our chilhood.

So in this art work. I took a picture of myself and edit it with an app in my phone call otaku giving an illustration that you would find in manga.

The world's leader

The world's leader by Bryan Chng Jing Siang is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License

‘The world's leader’ juxtaposes the leadership of two of America’s most recent leaders, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Despite having presidency of arguably one of the most prominent nations in the world today, both leaders have had vastly different approaches to governing the nation. This is symbolized by the shading of the dual ‘faces’ of America in the 21st century; Bush’s presidency has been significantly marked by the ‘War on Terror’ and the bloodshed resulted from his administration’s heavy-handed foreign policy, while Obama’s presidency, in contrast, has currently been characterized more for his focus on diplomacy. Nevertheless, their respective leaderships have collectively transformed the geopolitical face that America presents to the rest of the world in the 21st century.

Don't Let The World Change Your Smile

"Forced smiles in photographs always look a little awkward, but real ones do more than help you look good."

It is a place where technology is not so well-developed. Where residents still use the traditional way in everyday life. It is a place where nature is still very close to humans. Where peoples appreciate nature and nature embracing peoples.
It is a place where long-distance communication technology is very limited. But the affection and closeness felt so real. Parent-child relationship is not only seen from the eyes. And what is seen by the eye is not a lie. Maybe they just live in the small restaurant along the walkway. Small place in a small island, where modern people call it primitive.
This village is not my village, and they are not my neighbors, but I felt like I was in a safe place. Because the kindness. Because the attitude. Because the honesty in their eyes and their smile.

I'm just a stranger to them, but I don't know why and how they can give that expression. Maybe because e
veryone smiles in the same language.

REFLECTIONS

"Nature always wears the colours of the spirit."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

In our daily life, we often tend to look at the bigger picture. We miss out on little things. I took this picture during the sunset, after taking numerous pictures of the sun , I looked down to see the pictures on the camera, when I saw this. Till date this stands as one of my best!

I loved how the last few rays of the sun just glinted off the water. My favourite part is are contrasts of colours in this picture and the way the patterns formed by the water create movement.
This picture has a calming effect, I can still feel the soft ripples that the were created by the boat!
I had clicked this picture when we had visited a fishing camp in India.

SNOOPING

This project is very interesting. A sign of a woman is visible at image upper left, but the statue is snooping. It is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions to create a space with a certain visual, tactile art image, to reflect the social life, expressing the artist's aesthetic sense, aesthetic emotion, aesthetic ideal of art.I think the sculpture shows us something may be humanism.  Emmm....would you want to use this toilet?(I took this photo at China Academy of Art university)
